A-Z Challenge: Batman

Have you ever heard of the Dark Knight? Well you might now him by another name; Batman.

Batman has been a DC Comics super-hero for so long. He started out in comics, moved on to action figures, then video games and finally, the movies.
Batman is a fictional character and a comic book superhero created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger. Batman first appeared in Detective Comics #27 on May 1939 and since then has appeared primarily in publications by DC Comics. In adition to being refered to as Batman, he is also known as  "The Caped Crusader", "The Dark Knight", and "The World's Greatest Detective".

The Batman movies started with the late 1960s Batman television series which used a camp aesthetic that continued to be associated with the character for years after the show ended. Various creators worked to return the character to his dark roots, culminating in the 1986 miniseries The Dark Knight Returns, by Frank Miller, while the successes of Tim Burton's 1989 film Batman and Christopher Nolan's 2005 reboot Batman Begins also helped to reignite popular interest in the character.
Batman Begins, awas directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale as Batman. Its sequel, The Dark Knight (2008), set the record for the highest grossing opening weekend of all time in the U.S., earning approximately $158 million, and became the fastest film to reach the $400 million mark in the history of American cinema (eighteenth day of release). These record breaking attendances saw The Dark Knight listed as the third-highest domestic grossing film of all time with $533 million, bested only by Titanic and Avatar. Another sequel, The Dark Knight Rises, is expected to be released later this year, and is said to be the final Batman film to feature Nolan and Bale as director and leading actor.

The comics were a big hit in the day and most people lived for Batman! Here's a 1944 Batman original Sunday newspaper comic strip.

  1. Na, na, na, na, na, na, Batman, batman, batman! That is what goes through my head. I thought Michael Keaton did a great job in the Tim Burton version though I don't know if he's my favorite. I don't know if I have a favorite. I do love Joker. Jack Nicholson was a great Joker, but so was Heath Ledger. It was just a great character.
    Is it Catwoman?

  2. Yikes, that's a tough one. I'm playing through Arkham City at the moment and so there are a whole host of villains to choose from. For movies, I think Heath Ledger's Joker is amazing, though Tom Hardy's Bane in the next movie might steal that trophy.

    1. Arkham City is fun :D I forget if it's Arkham City or Akrham Asylum but in one of the two, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy have some very "provakative" outfits :P I like Bane or the Crock. Their both my favorite. Two villains, not a good sign ;P

The Joker is a cool villain. I wouldn't know which actor makes a better Batman so I'll just stop right here.

  8. Wow, I had no idea that all the Batman films put together had grossed over a BILLION dollars - that IS an insane amount of money!

I have to admit to being jealous that you got to see the real Batmobile - that's pretty frawesome.

My favorite character from Batman is Batman, of course, but my favorite villain was the Joker. He was just so twisted and completely evil - he's the ultimate villain.

  9. I only know that Killer Croc will always be the best batman villain in my book. I only really like him because besides Poison Ivy and Bane he is the only actual one with powers, (mutation, super smell, claws, super strength) he is epic looking to. But like I said compared to Penguin, Joker, Riddler, Two face and stuff they are just lunitics that have access to guns and men. Other then that they arent really dangerous without weapons.

    1. I couldn't agree more Nick. Killer Croc and Bane are my all time favorites. Everyone else is practically insane. Aside from their weapons, they have no real power. Ivy is one of my favorites. Have you played Arkham Asylum? Poison Ivy looks pretty bad in that game :P
